Spiritual New Year’s Resolutions for Christians

Christian New Year's Resolutions

The start of a new year is always a good time to re-center yourself, assess your life, and set up new goals for the future. In their essence that’s what new year’s resolutions are all about, promising yourself to make the necessary changes to improve yourself and your life. Most resolutions are along the lines of losing weight, exercising more, reading more books, and those types of small changes.

Knowing this, you may be asking yourself, “What about changes and improvements I can make to become a better Christian in 2020?” Our Frisco moving company is a Christian-owned local business and our leadership is heavily involved with their local church. They too are always looking for a way to become better Christians and live by the word of God. Here are three New Year’s resolutions for Christians.

Put God First

Start off the year with the promise to strengthen your faith in Jesus Christ and the teachings of the Bible. Resolve yourself to spend more time with God. Make sure your devotional time is not consistently interrupted, give yourself the time to pray to Him at least every morning. Devote more time to your faith, seek out a new story to study or community activity to attend.

Support Your Community

Christianity is as much about your connection to your neighbors and fellow Christians, as it is about attending church. Attending church regularly is the first step to building your community, while also being closer to God. This year take some time to attend more church activities or volunteer your time to help evangelize the younger generation and help them connect with His teachings. If you have benefited from online ministries and podcasts that extend the reach of the gospel, extend your financial support.

Give Thanks More Often

Giving thanks for material objects and people you have in your life shouldn’t be reserved for speeches at the Thanksgiving table in November. Giving thanks should be a year-round practice.

“Speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody with your heart to the Lord; always giving thanks for all things in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to God, even the Father; and be subject to one another in the fear of Christ.” – Ephesians 5:19-21 1

You should give thanks even if you aren’t feeling thankful! That is the power of your faith. Give thanks regularly and you’ll feel more peaceful and ready to face any tough challenges going into the new year.
